The outer hard shell of the ladybug is actually wing covers called elytra. They eat by chewing with their teeth.

A ladybug has two eyes but it doesnt see very well.

Ladybug anatomy. When ladybirds fly the elytra opens up to allow movement of the wings. In general the head of a coccinellid is wider than it is long. The head on these ladybugs also has two small white spot markings.
